Photos & files

What photos work, what resolution we need, and what happens to your files after we've printed.

How many photos do I need?

Three at minimum, twenty at most. Drop them in and we'll snap to a layout that fits. The Year-in-Photos family uses twelve (one per month) or thirteen if you include the year title.

What file types can I upload?

JPG, PNG, HEIC, and WebP. Anything modern iPhones or Android phones export by default. We convert in the background — you don't have to think about it.

What resolution do my photos need to be?

As a rule of thumb: anything taken on a phone made in the last five years is sharp enough for any size up to A2. A1 likes a bit more. We print at 300 DPI, so what matters is pixel count, not megapixels on the label.

What happens if my photo is low resolution?

We'll flag it on the page where you pick your size. You can still use the photo — it'll just print a little softer than a sharp photo would. Going down a size (A2 → A3) usually fixes it.

Can I crop or move a photo within its slot?

Yes. Click a photo in the preview to pan it up or down within its frame. We never stretch or distort — the photo always fills its slot at its natural proportions, and you pick which part of it is centred.

Will you edit or "enhance" my photos?

No. What you upload is what we print. We don't auto-correct colour, sharpen, or change anything about the image itself. The only thing the layout does is crop to fit the slot.

What happens to my photos after the poster is printed?

The full-size originals you uploaded are deleted 30 days after your poster is delivered. That runs automatically every night — you don't have to ask, and we don't keep a copy. Our print partner deletes their copy from their systems shortly after fulfilment. What we keep is the smaller display copy that draws the thumbnails in your order tracker, so re-ordering doesn't mean re-uploading, and the finished print file itself. Want the lot gone sooner, display copy included? Email [email protected] and we'll do it the same day.

Are my photos private?

Yes. They're stored encrypted, served only to you and our print partner, and never used for anything other than printing your poster. We don't train any model on them. We don't show them to anyone else. We don't share them outside our print partner.

Still stuck?

[email protected] — we read every email.
